Phnom Penh. Water features and Hercules within the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel on Sunday joined the list of World Heritage sites, after it was the longest run candidate on Germany’s tentative list since 1986.

Nachrichtenagentur„Also Rome wasn’t build in one day,“ said Professor Gerd Weiß, President of Hessen’s State Office of Historic Monuments, after the decision. „I’m really touched.“

Finally, after the committee has debated three days on new inscriptions in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh, it came to the “exceptional symbol of the era of European Absolutism” in Germany. It adopted the recommendation of the Heritage Advisory Committee ICOMOS to inscribe the property in Kassel.

Germany now has 38 World Heritage sites.
